Virtual simulator for autonomous driving
Development of a virtual driving simulator to improve the feeling of immersion and closeness to reality
Within the framework of the project, virtual reality software was developed that made it possible to analyse the driver’s behaviour in the face of different risk situations related to the autonomous vehicle.
To meet this objective, it was necessary to develop a simulator that replicated the behaviour of the autonomous vehicle using both virtual elements (environment, vehicle, external vehicles, etc.) and real elements (seat, steering wheel, etc.).
The system that was decided for the development of the simulation was through the Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) of CIS Technology and Design, which allowed a greater sense of immersion and closer to reality.
To validate the usefulness of the system, 24 volunteers tested it for a week to study its behaviour in different emergency situations.
