DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF A PORTABLE EQUIPMENT FOR TAKING RETINOGRAPHIES

In recent years, the quality improvement offered by the cameras of mobile telephony equipment has improved significantly thanks to the enormous graphic power. Additionally, the technological advance in plastic deposition 3D printers offers a range of possibilities in the development of projects of various kinds.

This ability to take high-quality photographs even with mid-range equipment together with the latest plastic deposition 3D printing technologies have allowed the promoters of this project – the CHUF Ophthalmology Service (Ferrol’s University Hospital Complex.) and CIS Technology and Design – the creation of low-cost, high-performance portable retinography equipment.

Each set consists of 8 plastic pieces joined by means of threaded rods and metal nuts that allow the use with any type of phone and to vary the focal length of the equipment.

There have been about twenty units produced that the CHUF ophthalmology group has distributed among those centres with fewer resources that will considerably contribute to improve the care of their patients.
